Head of Finance

At Scio Network, a dynamically growing consultancy firm in the field of international development cooperation, we are seeking a Head of Finance (m/f/d) part-time, to enrich our global team with their experience, commitment and passion.

Your Role.

In your position as Head of Finance, you would report to the Managing Director and you would have the responsibility and ownership of end to end Corporate Financial Management, including tracking cash flow and financial planning as well as analysing the company’s existing financial standing, processes, suggesting improvements and proposing corrective actions.

The position is initially foreseen as part-time for 13 hours/week. The scope of activities can be classified into two broad categories (these are indicative and not exhaustive):

Firm level

  • Developing an in-depth understanding of Scio’s vision, operations, existing processes and standards;
  • Bringing the industry best practices and control mechanisms to Scio’s Financial Management;
  • Overseeing and implementing Scio’s financial management, incl. financial planning and the monitoring of targets;
  • Performing Financial Risk Management and provide Financial Foresight over a short, medium and long term horizon;
  • Helping the Managing Director to make informed decisions considering cash and liquidity risks;
  • Conducting Financial Due Diligence of strategic investments into HR, ventures and other assets and being a thought partner on prioritizing strategic investments;
  • Developing live data reports and dashboards with relevant financial information and ensuring availability of accurate and updated financial data to the Managing Director;
  • Identifying a (digital) financial management solution compatible with our current systems (Datev, Salesforce);
  • Take total ownership of Financial Admin aspects like:
    • Leading our corporate finance (multiple currencies) and financial management tasks to ensure appropriate cash flow;
    • Leading our accounting (incl. invoicing) and tax-related issues to help the firm fulfil its legal reporting and taxation requirements;
    • Preparing reliable current and forecasting reports.

Project level

  • Establishing processes and structures for project budget planning to ensure and monitor project’s profitability;
  • Advising the project managers on financial management tasks;
  • Review and monitor incoming and outgoing invoices, initiate payments and manage bank related matters;
  • Work with our tax advisor on tax related matters for project finances and advise the project manager and Managing Director accordingly.

What We Look For.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; Master’s degree / MBA is a plus.
  • Work experience: Proven experience as financial controller, finance officer, CFO or any other relevant role; in-depth knowledge of corporate financial management and accounting practices; proficient with MS Office and financial management software.
  • Mindset: Hands-on manager, thriving in a startup environment; an analytical mind, comfortable with numbers; result-oriented, with a positive attitude and ability to strategize and solve problems; detail and quality oriented with good multitasking and organisational ability; enthusiastic about innovation and committed to creating positive social impact; willing to go the extra mile.
  • Language: Fluency in English and good command of German; knowledge of other languages is a plus.
