Research and Data Analyst in the field of International Development Cooperation

Your Role.

In your position as Research and Data Analyst, you would report to the Team Lead for Monitoring, Impact Evaluation, and Learning, and  you would be instrumental in driving forward Scio’s organizational development in the field of M&E, with a special focus on rigorous impact evaluations. You would work on our M&E projects (current clients are various GIZ projects and Fairtrade International), by providing applied research services, data analysis and methodological support to M&E systems and processes. Your tasks include:

  • Implementation and management of M&E/applied research assignments including quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Application of robust academic models and theories to real world challenges in development cooperation
  • Creating new business opportunities and expanding Scio’s client base
  • Development of proposals for new opportunities within M&E

This key role will have a significant impact on the founding team, the development of the business, the work environment, as well as employee benefits. Overtime, you will get the chance to develop this role beyond its original scope (based on qualifications and performance). The position is designed to be filled immediately at a minimum of 50-80% and will be expanded to a full-time (100%) position in 2022. We offer a freelance position at the outset, which may lead to a permanent position with competitive compensation. The honorarium or salary will be based on the agreed scope of work and your qualifications. Scheduling of the work is flexible, and you are expected to work from home (can be outside of Germany) or from our office space at WeWork in Frankfurt am Main. Starting as soon as possible.

What You Bring.

  • Education: Master’s degree (or higher) in economics, statistics, international development, or a related field with a strong focus on quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Work experience: At least 2-5 years of relevant work experience in research, statistics, preferably with a development relevant focus
  • Some (theroretical) knowledge in the design, implementation, and economic analysis (e.g. Difference in Difference, Propensity Score Matching, Regression Discontinuity, Instrumental Variables) of impact evaluations (experimental, quasi-experimental, and mixed method approaches).
  • Strong research and data analysis skills and confidence in using quantitative (e.g. SPSS, R or STATA, and qualitative (Nvivo, MAXQDA) data analysis programs. Strong data visualisation skills are desired.
  • A Scio-minset: A self-starter, enthusiastic about innovation, committed to creating positive social impact; results-oriented, creative and with attention to detail and quality
  • Language: Very good oral communication and writing skills in English and German. Other languages are a definite plus.
